From the Chair
Greetings. I am the 2009-2010 Chair of the State Bar’s Labor and Employment Law Section. I write to tell you a little about us and then ask for your suggestions.
The Labor & Employment Law Section has been in existence since 1948 and serves as a neutral forum for the practice of labor and employment law in Texas. Our section’s membership includes representatives of unions, management, individual employees, academics, mediators and arbitrators, and law students. The section is a place where all sides can come together and work for the common good of our professional specialty.
The section has many important projects, including a wonderful quarterly newsletter, a jury charge database (which is getting bigger by the day), a fall employment law seminar, and a summer internship program to support pro bono legal providers. We also make grants to non-profits for specific employment-related programs.
We have a number of standing committees on which we can always use volunteers. These include membership, pro bono, history, website, jury charge database and continuing legal education.
But enough about us. We want to hear from you. What do you think we should be doing as a section? We have a lot of wisdom and experience in our membership and we would love you to share it with us. Please let us hear from you during the coming year.
