FROM THE CHAIR

July 27, 2010

Welcome. I am the 2010-2011 Chair of the State Bar’s Labor and Employment Law Section and write to tell you a little about us and ask for your suggestions.

The Labor and Employment Law Section has been in existence since 1948 and serves as a neutral forum for the practice of labor and employment law in Texas. Our Section’s membership includes approximately 3,000 licensed attorneys, who are representatives of unions, management, individual employees, academics, mediators and arbitrators, and law students. Our purpose is to promote and enhance the practice of law by all lawyers who specialize or have an interest in labor and employment law.

The Section publishes a quarterly newsletter, which includes reviews and analysis of recent employment cases, maintains a jury charge database, and sponsors an annual employment law seminar. The Section has established a summer internship program to support pro-bono legal providers and we also make grants to non-profit organizations for specific employment related programs.

The Section maintains a number of standing committees, which are always looking for volunteers. These include pro-bono, jury charge database, continuing legal education and webcasts.

We represent you and we want to hear from you. What would you like to see us doing as a section? What can we offer you as a current or potential member? We welcome you to our website and hope to hear from you during the coming year.
